MISSION

Our goal at Henrico Area Prevention Services is to promote health and wellness. Henrico Area Prevention Services supports individuals, family, and community strengths by reducing the influence of risk factors and increasing protective factors. Addressing risks and building upon the strengths of youth, families, and communities averts the need for more costly substance use and mental health treatment services. OUR PROGRAMS

Evidence-based programs
Focus on school-age youth to promote healthy development and lifestyles. Objectives include addressing the developmental and gender-specific needs of youth, promoting life skills, and building resiliency against substance use and other at-risk behaviors.
Environmental Strategies
Prevention professionals use approaches supported by research, environmental strategies, to positively change or influence the conditions in communities in which risky behaviors occur. These include, but are not limited to, physical, social, or cultural factors.
Workshops & Training
Henrico Prevention offers various FREE community-based trainings supporting mental health awareness, substance use prevention, and wellness.
Youth Leadership and Development
Prevention professionals use approaches supported by research, environmental strategies, to positively change or influence the conditions in communities in which risky behaviors occur. These include, but are not limited to, physical, social, or cultural factors.
Youth Programs
The CONNECT program is a community-based year around program that promotes healthy environments for youth ages 6 – 17.
Prevention Community Coalitions
Henrico Too Smart 2 Start Coalition is a 501 (C) 3 Non-Profit Organization that promotes health and wellness in Henrico County with a primary focus on reducing youth substance abuse through education, advocacy and capacity building.

This short safety PSA highlights the warning signs of potential violence, the importance of secure firearm storage, and steps anyone can take to protect themselves and their community. It encourages viewers to seek help in moments of crisis and reinforces one simple message… never reach for a gun.
